Day-by-Day Travel Plan
Duration: 12 Days / 11 Nights
Route: Dehradun → Mussoorie → Barkot → Yamunotri → Uttarkashi → Gangotri → Guptkashi → Kedarnath → Pipalkoti/Joshimath → Badrinath → Auli → Dehradun
Day 1: Landing in Dehradun, Onward to Mussoorie
Your journey starts the moment you touch down at Dehradun Airport or step off the train at the station. Our team will be right there to meet you. From here, it's a drive up into the hills, the road curling through forest and foothills until Mussoorie appears in front of you.
Once you're settled, spend the afternoon taking in the following:
- Kempty Falls
- Company Garden
- Mall Road
- Gun Hill Ropeway, optional but worth it for the view
- Camel's Back Road
The mountain air does something to you almost instantly. Watch the sunset from up here, it's a proper introduction to what the next twelve days have in store.
Overnight: Mussoorie
Day 2: Mussoorie to Barkot
After breakfast, the road takes you towards Barkot. Along the way you'll pass the Yamuna Bridge, wind through Kempty Valley, and catch a few viewpoints that make you want to just stop the car and stare for a while.
Check in once you reach Barkot, and let the evening settle in slowly.
Overnight: Barkot
Day 3: Barkot to Yamunotri and Back
Early start today, driving to Janki Chatti before the real journey begins on foot. The trek up to Yamunotri Temple is where this pilgrimage properly starts feeling like one. Ponies and palkis are available if you'd rather not walk the whole stretch, at your own cost.
At the top:
- Yamunotri Temple
- Surya Kund
- Divya Shila
Head back down to Barkot once darshan is done, tired legs and full hearts.
Overnight: Barkot
Day 4: Barkot to Uttarkashi
Breakfast, then a scenic drive to Uttarkashi. Once there, spend time at:
- Kashi Vishwanath Temple
- Shakti Temple
- The banks of the Bhagirathi River
Evening is yours to do with as you please; maybe just sit by the river and let the day settle.
Overnight: Uttarkashi
Day 5: Uttarkashi to Gangotri and Back
Another early morning, this time heading to Gangotri, passing through the striking Harsil Valley and Bhairon Ghati along the way. Offer your prayers at Gangotri Temple, and if timing allows, stay for the Ganga Aarti, one of those moments that tends to stay with people long after the trip ends.
Return to Uttarkashi for the night.
Overnight: Uttarkashi
Day 6: Uttarkashi to Guptkashi
Breakfast, then a drive through some genuinely gorgeous mountain terrain towards Guptkashi. Visit the Ardhnarishwar Temple once you arrive, and spend the rest of the evening at leisure, no rush, no agenda.
Overnight: Guptkashi
Day 7: Guptkashi to Kedarnath
This is the big one. Drive to Sonprayag, then onward to Gaurikund, where the trek to Kedarnath Temple begins. It's a demanding climb, no question, but there are helicopter, pony, and palki options available at extra cost if you'd prefer not to walk the entire way.
If the timing works out, you'll catch the evening Aarti at the temple, a moment that's hard to put into words.
Overnight: Kedarnath
Day 8: Kedarnath Back to Guptkashi
Early morning darshan first thing. Then it's the return trek down to Gaurikund, followed by the drive back to Guptkashi.
Overnight: Guptkashi
Day 9: Guptkashi to Badrinath
Drive to Badrinath, routed via Chopta depending on how the roads are looking that day. Once you arrive:
- Badrinath Temple
- Tapt Kund
- The evening Aarti
Overnight: Badrinath
Day 10: Badrinath, Mana Village, then Auli
Morning is spent exploring Mana, officially India's last village before the Tibetan border, along with:
- Vyas Gufa
- Ganesh Gufa
- The Saraswati River
- Bhim Pul
From here, drive through Joshimath and continue up to Auli. The Himalayan views on this stretch genuinely don't let up.
Overnight: Auli
Day 11: Auli Sightseeing, Back to Dehradun
Start with the Auli Ropeway, weather and operations permitting, one of the highest and most scenic cable car rides in the country. Then:
- The Artificial Lake
- Ski slopes
- Gorson Meadow, optional trek for those who want a bit more walking in
- Assorted Himalayan viewpoints
Later, begin the drive back down to Dehradun.
Overnight: Dehradun
Day 12: Departure from Dehradun
Breakfast, check out, and a transfer to Dehradun Airport or Railway Station. Twelve days, four sacred shrines, and a stretch of the Himalayas that doesn't easily leave your memory. Your Char Dham Yatra concludes here, with blessings that tend to stay with you well past the trip itself.
Cost: Depends on the number of people travelling.
