18-day North India tour covering Delhi, Agra, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Shimla, Kasol, Manali, McLeod Ganj and Dharamshala with heritage, spirituality and Himalayan experiences.
Day-by-Day Travel Plan
Eighteen days is enough time to actually feel a place shift under your feet, from the marble domes of Agra to the prayer flags fluttering above McLeod Ganj. Garhwal Himalayan Expedition has built this Grand North India tour package around that idea, with monuments, sacred rivers, colonial hill stations, and Himalayan valleys strung together at a pace that never feels rushed.
Route covered: Delhi, Agra, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Chandigarh, Shimla, Kasol, Manali, McLeod Ganj, and Dharamshala. Arrival and departure from Delhi.
Days 1-3: Delhi and Agra
Land in Delhi, where a private vehicle and driver take you straight to your hotel. Once you've settled in, an easy evening at India Gate and Connaught Place eases you into the city's rhythm. Day two covers Old and New Delhi in a single ride from Jama Masjid to a drive past Red Fort, Raj Ghat, Humayun's Tomb, and Qutub Minar, before you head onwards to Agra.
Agra means an early start for the Taj Mahal, still one of the most quietly overwhelming things you'll ever stand in front of. Agra Fort follows before the drive back to Delhi for a free evening.
Days 4-6: Haridwar and Rishikesh by Train
A train ride carries you from Delhi to Haridwar, and the evening's Ganga Aarti at Har Ki Pauri is worth planning your whole day around, hundreds of lamps drifting on the Ganges while chants fill the air. A short transfer the next day brings you to Rishikesh, India's yoga capital, where Ram Jhula, Laxman Jhula, the ghats, and the Beatles Ashram fill an unhurried couple of days. An evening train then takes you toward Chandigarh, a smooth, scenic way to shift gears from spiritual to Himalayan.
Days 7-8: Shimla and Kufri
From Chandigarh, the road climbs steadily into Shimla, the former summer capital of British India, where colonial buildings still line The Ridge and Mall Road. The next day covers Kufri, Jakhoo Temple, Christ Church, and a string of mountain viewpoints, before an easy evening back in Shimla with coffee and window shopping along Mall Road.
Days 9-10: Kasol and Manikaran
The drive into the Parvati Valley is one of the most scenic legs of the whole trip, villages, forests, and increasingly dramatic mountain scenery all the way to Kasol. From there, Manikaran offers a different kind of morning altogether: natural hot springs, a revered gurdwara, and views that make the short detour more than worthwhile. Evenings by the Parvati River are unhurried, exactly how this stretch of the trip should feel.
Days 11-13: Manali and Solang Valley
Manali arrives after a drive through forest and river valley, and the days here move at a relaxed, cultural pace: Hadimba Devi Temple, Vashisht's hot springs, a Tibetan monastery, and the cafés of Old Manali. A day trip to Solang Valley adds mountain views, photography stops, and optional adventure activities depending on the season, before your final evening back in Manali.
Days 14-15: McLeod Ganj and Dharamshala
The road to McLeod Ganj winds through changing Himalayan landscapes before delivering you into what's often called Little Tibet. The Dalai Lama Temple Complex, Bhagsunag Temple, Bhagsu Waterfall, and the Tibetan markets fill the following day, a cultural contrast that lands differently after two weeks of monuments and mountains.
Days 16-18: The Journey Back to Delhi
A private drive takes you from Dharamshala to Chandigarh as the mountains gradually flatten into plains. From there, the Vande Bharat Express offers a fast, comfortable ride back into Delhi, a fitting way to close out a trip built on contrast. Your final day is free until your flight, giving you time for last-minute shopping or simply sitting with everything you've seen before the private transfer to Delhi Airport.
