12-Day Darjeeling-Sikkim Tour Package from Bagdogra NJP

18-day North India tour covering Delhi, Agra, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Shimla, Kasol, Manali, McLeod Ganj and Dharamshala with heritage, spirituality and Himalayan experiences.

Day-by-Day Travel Plan

Some trips need a beach and a cocktail. This one needs sturdy shoes and a good jacket. Garhwal Himalayan Expedition has put together this 12-day, 11-night Sikkim tour package from Bagdogra for travellers who'd rather chase sunrises over Kanchenjunga than lie around doing nothing. Tea estates, monasteries older than most cities, glacial lakes, and roads that curve through cloud, this Darjeeling Sikkim itinerary covers all of it without rushing you through any single place.

Route covered: Bagdogra Airport / NJP Railway Station, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Gangtok, Pelling, Ravangla, Namchi, Siliguri

Day 1: Reaching Darjeeling (70 km, roughly 3-4 hours on the road)

Your journey starts the moment you land at Bagdogra or step off the train at NJP, where a private driver takes over from here. The climb up to Darjeeling is gradual, and somewhere along the way the plains disappear behind tea gardens and pine-covered slopes. Once you've checked into your hotel, there's usually enough daylight left for a walk down to Chowrasta and Mall Road, still buzzing even after decades of tourists passing through.

Day 2: Sunrise at Tiger Hill, Then a Full Day of Sightseeing

This is an early wake-up call, but nobody complains once Kanchenjunga starts glowing gold at Tiger Hill. Breakfast comes after, and then it's a steady round of Darjeeling's landmarks:

  • Ghoom Monastery
  • Batasia Loop
  • Himalayan Mountaineering Institute
  • Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park
  • Tenzing Rock
  • Tibetan Refugee Self-Help Centre

Evenings belong to Chowrasta again, this time for a slower, more relaxed round of the same streets.

Day 3: Onwards to Kalimpong (50 km, about 2.5-3 hours)

Kalimpong has a slower pulse than Darjeeling, which is less crowded and has more forests. After checking in, spend the afternoon at Durpin Dara Hill, the Zang Dhok Palri Phodang Monastery, Deolo Hill and Pine View Nursery, before browsing the local bazaars for handmade goods and mountain produce.

Day 4: Drive Through Teesta Valley to Gangtok (75 km, 3-4 hours)

The road to Gangtok hugs the Teesta River for long stretches, arguably one of the prettiest drives in the whole itinerary. Once you've settled into your Gangtok hotel, head straight to MG Marg, a car-free promenade lined with cafés and lit up nicely once the sun goes down.

Day 5: Gangtok's Monasteries and Viewpoints

A full day dedicated to Gangtok itself:

  • Rumtek Monastery
  • Enchey Monastery
  • Do Drul Chorten
  • Namgyal Institute of Tibetology
  • Flower Exhibition Centre
  • Ganesh Tok, Tashi View Point

By the time evening rolls around, MG Marg is waiting again for dinner and a bit of unhurried shopping.

Day 6: Tsomgo Lake and the Nathula Border Excursion

This day usually ends up being everyone's favourite. Tsomgo Lake sits high up, ringed by mountains that reflect off its water on a clear day, and from there the road continues toward Nathula Pass, the historic trade route into Tibet. Permits and weather decide whether Nathula itself is accessible, so treat it as a bonus rather than a guarantee; the lake alone justifies the day. You'll head back into Gangtok for the night.

Day 7: Gangtok to Pelling (120 km, 5-6 hours)

Longer drive today, cutting through forest belts and small villages tucked into the hillsides. Pelling arrives quietly in the late afternoon, and once you're checked in, there isn't much to do except sit outside and let the mountain air do its thing.

Day 8: Pelling's Monasteries and That Kanchenjunga View

Wake up early here if you can; Kanchenjunga is often visible right from the hotel window before the clouds roll in. The day's stops include:

  • Pemayangtse Monastery
  • Rabdentse Ruins
  • Khecheopalri Lake
  • Skywalk and Chenrezig Statue
  • Singshore Bridge
  • Darap Village

Bring your camera; this is arguably the most photogenic day of the trip.

Day 9: Pelling to Ravangla (70 km, around 3 hours)

An easy, shorter drive brings you into Ravangla, best known for its Buddha Park, where a giant Buddha statue overlooks manicured gardens with mountains stacked up behind it. The rest of the day is open, ideal for slowing down after the last few packed days.

Day 10: Ravangla to Namchi

Namchi wraps up the South Sikkim leg with a strong dose of culture. Visit Char Dham, Samdruptse Hill, and Namchi Monastery, then close the day with a walk through the neat, fragrant rows of Temi Tea Garden, one of the region's oldest tea estates.

Day 11: Descending to Siliguri (110 km, 4-5 hours)

The road downhill takes you out of the mountains and back into the flatter terrain of North Bengal. Check into your Siliguri hotel by evening, with the rest of the day free for shopping or simply resting after nearly two weeks of travel.

Day 12: Departure

Breakfast, checkout, and a final transfer to Bagdogra Airport or NJP Railway Station for your onward journey home, hopefully with a phone full of photos you'll be showing people for months.
